Use the Time Calculator to add or subtract durations in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. You can combine two time spans, see normalized totals, or add a duration to a specific date and time to find the final result.

How it works

  • Each duration is converted into total seconds using 86,400 seconds per day, 3,600 seconds per hour, and 60 seconds per minute.
  • In Add mode, the two totals are added together. In Subtract mode, the second total is subtracted from the first.
  • The signed result is normalized back into days, hours, minutes, and seconds so overflow values are easier to read.
  • Negative duration results are kept as negative totals while the day, hour, minute, and second fields show the absolute interval.
  • For date and time calculations, the start date and time are parsed as a local browser time.
  • The duration is added to or subtracted from the local timestamp, then formatted as the final date and time.

Yes. Blank duration fields are treated as zero, so you only need to enter the units you care about.

Does the calculator normalize large values?

Yes. Values are normalized automatically, so 75 seconds becomes 1 minute 15 seconds, 90 minutes becomes 1 hour 30 minutes, and 26 hours becomes 1 day 2 hours.

What happens if subtraction creates a negative result?

The calculator keeps the result negative and shows a clear note. The days, hours, minutes, and seconds still describe the size of the interval.

How are total hours and total minutes calculated?

The normalized result is also shown as signed totals. Total hours divide the result seconds by 3,600, and total minutes divide the result seconds by 60.

Can I add time to a calendar date?

Yes. Use the date and time section to enter a starting date and time, choose Add, then enter the duration you want to add.

Can I subtract time from a date?

Yes. Choose Subtract in the date and time section and enter the duration to move the starting date and time backward.

What does the Now button do?

Does the calculator account for my local time zone?

Date and time calculations use your browser's local date and time settings. Duration-only calculations do not depend on a time zone.
